Applying for Membership

How long does it take to hear back after I apply?

2-4 weeks.  If you haven't heard back after a month's wait, please email me.

Do I have to have my jewelry listed in any specific place to be eligible for SRAJD membership?

No... but it’s nice if you have some way of showing your jewelry to the committee, so we can try to verify you are the artist and the seller.

What if I sell in a stand-alone website (not eBay, Etsy, etc), but I'm not the only jewelry designer there?

Not a problem.  The logo is for YOU, not for a website... so just make sure the logo either accompanies only YOUR listings or is on your personal bio page, etc.

What if I sell jewelry, but also sell other things?

Not a problem.  Use the SRAJD logo for your jewelry items and don't use the SRAJD logo on your non-jewelry items.  Remember, the logo is there to identify a piece of jewelry as one made by the person who's selling it.  That's all.

I see there are no quality standards for this organization?

Right... SRAJD is merely an organization for sellers to be recognized as self-representing.  We don't "jury" the applicants.

What do I get out of being a member?

If you want to know what "what's in it" for you this organization may not be the right place for you.  We don't provide anything other than a community.  We are here to think of ways to raise awareness of self-representing artist jewelry designers.  We are here to stick together and lift another, not to be self-righteous of one another or fear the competition, etc.  Because I believe in "strength in numbers", "two heads are better than one", and "no man is an island"… I feel that if we bond together into this organization, our collective knowledge and talent can work together toward the common goal of educating people to the benefits of considering jewelry bought directly from the artist.  Okay, stepping off of the soapbox now.  For some reason, I occasionally run across a bitter personality that doesn't seem to understand the purpose of SRAJD and so I continue to try to explain it to those who may be misinterpreting our goal.

The Roster

Why do you ask for and list our real names, rather than the names of our businesses or stores?

Because you are the artist before you are the business... and the logo is assigned to YOU, not your business.  The logo doesn’t represent a store or a business; it represents an artist.

Why do you want our email addresses on the roster?

It's not mandatory, but if it's there customers can contact you.  Customers will eventually be going to our roster to find places they can shop for hand-crafted jewelry being sold by the artisan.

Why can I only list one website on the roster?

It seems like the fairest idea.

What if my information changes someday?

No problem.  Just email me the information and we'll update the roster.

How to make SRAJD work for you

What URL should I used to direct people to the SRAJD site in case they want to join or have a question about what it's all about?

www.SRAJD.com

I was recently asked if SRAJD had one basic logo (not a membership logo) that could be used on websites.

I have now provided this.  Copy and paste this HTML code to place the logo on your website with a hyperlink (makes it clickable) back to the SRAJD main page.

<a href=http://srajd.com><p align=center><img src=http://www.hathorrising.com/SRAJD/SRAJDLogo.jpg>

What if one of your members doesn't really sell their own work, but instead is selling mass-produced items and pretending it's their own?

Tell us!  We will investigate all such claims to the best of our ability.  If we suspect someone is not making the items they're selling, we will revoke their membership.

I don't understand what I'm supposed to do with the logo you showed me:

Each logo I create for a new member stays up on my website for about a month after I notify you.  You're supposed to "take" the image and store it somewhere.  The first thing to do is put your mouse on top of the logo (after you've followed the URL and see your logo up on your screen) and right click on it.  Then choose the option that states "Save picture as".  A pop-up window will give you choices as to where you want the logo saved, but they will all be on YOUR computer.  You just have to remember which directory you put it in.

From there, you can upload the logo to your own webspace and use the URL to point to it, or you can imbed the picture from your harddrive however you need/want to for your jewelry listings.

Here is the HTML coding to place the logo into your listings or on your website, etc.  Please note: replace the yellow text with the location of YOUR internet-stored logo.

To center the logo horizontally on your page, use this:

<p align=center><img src=http://www.hathorrising.com/SRAJD/Logos/FAQlogo.jpg>

To add a hyperlink to your logo that directs people to the SRAJD website, use this:

<a href=http://srajd.com><img src=http://www.hathorrising.com/SRAJD/Logos/FAQlogo.jpg>

How can I help our cause?

Spread the word to other self-representing jewelry artisans.  Educate your customers (with blurbs in your listings and flyers at your shows, etc).  Use the acronym... get the customers used to seeing and knowing what it means.  And keep an eye out for the logo and report to us any abuse of it (using it for mass-produced items).
